Prague February 2005

A cold encounter, of the sub-zero kind!

22/02/05

My fourth visit to Prague, and this time I've brought the family, there'll be no fun this trip :)

Bethany and Judy in the courtyard of the U Zlateho Jelena*** (The Golden Stag) as used on previous trips, it's very handily located behind the Tyn Church, just off the old town square.

The last time I was in Prague it was snowing, this time it was very very cold!, -20C during the night -11C during the day! Not that you would know it in our rooms, I had to turn off 2 radiators because it was far too hot!

And so, for a wander around Prague, Here's a rear view of the of the Tyn Church close to our hotel. The light was superb for photography

A more detailed view with the perspective corrected

From the Old Town Square we moved on to a sub-zero Charles Bridge

Hot chocolate and cakes, due to the extreme cold we had to dive into cafés every hour to warm up

Wandering further afield, we took a ride up the  Funicular Railway and visited Petrin Tower, this this time we all went up.

299 steps later, this was the view that greeted us, to the North we have Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral.

And to the west is the Vltava river as it winds around the old town with the Charles bridge crossing it.

I suspect the entire output of India's Pashmina factories is stockpiled in Prague. Here's Judy looking for a 'genuine' bargain (around £6.00?)

While my wife was searching for a Pashmina, I dodged into Fotoskoda again (just off Wenceslas Square), and had a browse around the cameras and equipment.

Now, would I like to get my hands on this baby, a Canon model 7 rangefinder! Mmm just look at that f0.9 lens!

And that's about it for this trip, there really is a lot to see and do in Prague, and it is still relatively inexpensive to vist. For our last evening meal we visited an Italian restaurant 100 meters form our hotel. The bill for a 3 course meal for 3 came to £22. You can't grumble at that. My wife was very impressed with the sights but not the cold :( so we have booked again for August :) see you then!

Our hotel was as usual booked through the M. Long Agency, and flights through easyJet.
