Touring Southern Norway 7th June 2004 - Bonvoyage
Norway is really easy to reach for those of us living in the North of England, we caught the overnight DFDS Seaways ferry from Newcastle to Kristiansand. It leaves Newcastle at around 1800 and you roll off in Norway around 0915 the next morning.
Newcastle ferry port: Here's John fixing his 'K for Kristiansand' sticker so the boarding crew know where to send you.
The line up for this trip is:
Dave's touring Tmax, complete with Streetpilot GPS, heated
grips and 2 gallon
Once we were allowed on, we were directed to the bows and given straps to tie the bikes down.
Relaxing on the sun deck:
On board, DFDS provide a selection of bars and restaurants, we chose the buffet for our evening meal: all you can eat for £17. If you like sea food I recommend it.
After a meal and a few beers we went below and settled down for the night. Tip! If you can afford it, book a better cabin than 'economy' there were 4 bunks in our cabin but only room for 2 to stand at once, you could hang up your coat, but nowhere at all to put your bags, we called it steerage.
All night long the Princess of Scandinavia vibrated, thumped and creaked her way to Norway, it's amazing how a few beers help you sleep :-)
