Posting Pictures on the 'Motobins' Forum Created 19/03/03
To put a picture on the Motobins forum, you must first have it available on the internet so the Motobins server can find it, the best place would be your own web space, most people have at least 10 meg of space given by the Internet provider. Pictures can be uploaded to your web space using a suitable FTP (file transfer protocol) program, such as; Terrapin Its a 1.7mb download, 30 day trial use program.
The code to post a picture or a signature picture is the same.
For a signature picture around 100 pixels high is good as larger pictures can swamp your post or even slow it down from showing. You can use either, .jpg or .gif. When you have the picture in your web space log in to the Motobins site and go to your profile at the top of the page. At the bottom of your profile page is a window called 'Signature': This is where you put the code to tell the Motobins server were to find your picture. Below is the format of the wording/coding to make the picture appear on your posting. It’s important there are NO SPACES between the coding and the address. See below: GOOD - BAD - Below is a picture of my Signature window
Which produces this result in the Motobins forum
NB: I tried putting the picture in the root of my website, I don’t know why, but it didn’t work. The picture was then placed in the “downloads” folder and it worked great from there. An easy way to get the picture address right is to post the picture on your web space then type the address into your browser and get the picture up on your screen. Once you have it on your screen, copy the address and paste it in to the 'Signature' window and just add to the beginning and end of the picture link, without any gaps! Don't forget you can log in and modify one of your old posts to check if a picture will post ok, before you commit to making a new post. Amendment 13/07/03 Thanks to Indian you can now make your signature picture clickable, below is the code to do this
From this: To this:
Another tip from Indian, You can make a line of text clickable by using the code below
Ebbo In this case "Ebbo" becomes clickable and sends you to www.ebbo.org
Yep it's a bit complicated, but it does work Cheers Indian.
