Swiss Alps 2002

Day1 - Day2 - Day3 - Day4 - Day5 - Day6 - Day7

It was certainly a grey day, both outside and in. After getting essential supplies in at the Andermatt Co-op we set of down to Altdorf Hospital. We found Kid in a room of his own. He was pretty drugged up but with it enough to want a cigarette, so we took him up to the roof garden.

They had operated last night on the broken leg. it was the Tibia (lower front bone) that was broken at the top. there was a diagonal break a couple of inches from the top and one side of the top was broken as well.

A frame had been fitted to keep everything in line. I saw the X-rays with the Doctor later. He was very pleased with the work so far but another operation was needed to re build the top of the front bone. They said with an injury like this they would have him walking in 3 months. It's quite a shock coming to a Hospital with more staff than patients, They couldn't do enough for you, bit different to the uk. The new nurse coming on duty at 2 O'clock came up to the roof to introduce herself. Phone calls were made back to the uk informing insurance companies etc of the accident and generally sorting thing out.

We stayed half the afternoon then rode back up the mountain to Andermatt. Dave had seen an Yamaha dealers (Gisler Motos) on the way and wanted to stop by and ask about a rack and top box for the Tmax. When we got there they said they could get the parts for tomorrow but the price was far more than the uk so we shelved it. Little did we know we would be back so soon!

I took a pictures on the way back near the top of the Pass showing the old disused road bridge. and the road snaking in to the gallery on the top right. Just above the bridge hidden in the trees is the Railway Gallery, must be rack and pinion in there its so steep. The Gallery's keep the roads & railways open when it snows.

Two pictures from our Apartment. The first is the view from the balcony with the Oberalp pass snaking up the mountain in the background.

And this is the lounge, very spacious and comfortable. Accommodation comprised of, Lounge with 2 bed settees, 1 bedroom with 4 big bunks & 1 bedroom with 2 single beds, Kitchen, Bathroom/Shower with separate wc.

Nobody felt like doing much today so it was decided to visit Kid the next morning, then take a ride over Sustsen, Grimsel and Furka passes on the way back. Anyway we would see what tomorrow would bring.
